Service Opportunities
Troop 542 Organized Service Projects
- Quarterly Highway Cleanup: Troop 542 is a long time partner of PennDOT’s Adopt-a-Highway program, cleaning up Fort Washington Avenue at least 4 times per year. Scouts should check the Troop’s newsletter or ask the Outdoor Ethics Guide for info on the next cleanup day.
- Trail and Nature Service Projects: One of our junior leaders, the Outdoor Ethics Guide, arranges for an outdoor maintenance project at one of the various nature center in the area at least twice a year. Check The Eagle, or talk to the Outdoor Ethics Guide for info on the next opportunity.
- Scouting for Food Drive: BSA’s annual food drive is a vital chance to fill the cabinets and shelves of the local food banks and cupboards. This collection happens every year in October and November. BUT, the need is year-round and any Scouts wishing to contribute donations to a local food cupboard are encouraged to collect items and bring them to any meeting. Talk to the Scoutmaster to find out where items can be delivered at the current time.
Eagle Scout Leadership Projects
Every Scout working on achieving his Eagle Scout rank must complete a leadership service project to benefit a non-profit organization. With a troop like 542, these projects happen on a regular basis. Scouts wishing to find out more about upcoming opportunities to help should contact the Scoutmaster or any of our Eagle Coaches.
